Description

The Singleton Glen Ord 40-Year-Old, was a limited-edition single malt is released as an Asia Travel Retail exclusive expression by Diageo Global Travel.  Released in 2017, the oldest and rarest single malt the distillery has bottled in over 170 years.  There were only 999 bottles of this whisky worldwide.

The Singleton is a brand Diageo uses to showcase the distilleries in its Scotch whisky portfolio, of which the company has 50 in total, with the Glen Ord expression exclusive to Malaysia and Taiwan.  The Glen Ord distillery has been operating since 1838 and one of the signatures of the whisky style is that it uses an equal percentage of American Oak casks and European sherry oak casks.

If the age and rarity of this bottle weren’t enough, we crown it off with an autograph of the Whisky Legend, Charles MacLean.

Charles MacLean is one of the founders of The Scotch Whisky Society and has been described by the London Times as “the world’s top expert on Scotch whisky”. He has published eight books to date, including “The Gazetteer of Scotch Whisky”, the standard work on whisky. He is a cousin of the MacLean chieftain and international ambassador for the Scottish Distillers.

For whisky lovers, Charles MacLean needs little introduction, but his achievements are hugely impressive. He’s spent the past 30 years researching, writing and lecturing about Scotch whisky, and has created many authoritative reference books on the subject.  He is a consultant to the whisky industry and to Bonhams International Auctioneers, sits on the judging panel of the International Wine & Spirits Awards, and in 2009 he received the honour of being elected Master of the Quaich – the industry’s highest accolade. He also appeared in the hit Ken Loach film, ‘The Angels’ Share’.

You might say that Charles MacLean knows a thing or two about whisky.

To prove the authenticity of the signature, we actually published this on Twitter back in 2017, tagged Mr MacLean, and then he even gave our post a like.  Check the pictures displayed here, one with the bottle on Twitter and a second picture showing that the like came from Mr MacLean.  We’re happy to also provide Mr MacLean’s email address for the authenticity of his signature.

The bottle alone is worth ¥30’000.  To have one of the world Whisky Legends make his mark on this bottle adds a fair chunk to it.
