Mars Maltage Cosmo
Mars Maltage Cosmo is a Blended Malt Japanese whisky. Read the label, that’s what it says. But that’s not what it is. The Mars Maltage “Cosmo” (why the quotation marks?) is actually a blended malt comprised of both Japanese and Scottish malt whisky. What’s the ratio? I’ve no idea.
The Japanese whisky used for this blend was produced by Mars Shinshu, a distillery that has been active since 1985 and is located in Miyata. This small village lies at an altitude of almost 800 meters in the Japanese alps. During winter time, temperatures drop to -15 degrees Celsius.
Nose: Soft vanilla notes up front, joined by sweet red fruit (think cherry and sugary raspberry).
Palate: Orange oil and chocolate, fresh barley and toasty oak.
Finish: Fresh plum and white grape. Cereals and chocolate biscuits.
