Mars Kagoshima with Highland’s Friends
A wonderful new blended whisky from the hugely popular Mars whisky. This is an expert blend that included some whisky from the now silent Kagoshima distillery. It was created and bottled at Mars Shinshu and brings an intense array of smooth and fruity flavours to the table that any fan of Mars will enjoy. This whisky comes in a bottle with a gorgeous label that we think is one of the most stunning of 2018 so far. A fantastic expression from start to finish.
Nose: Very unusual. Hints of soy sauce, cut grass, butter, linseed oil, sherry and sultanas.
Palate: About as umami-rich as they come, this is a medium bodied whisky with tons of spice. Notes of caramel, sherried peels, spent matches, burnt sugar, black pepper and paraffin. What a whisky!
Finish: Medium length with notes of caramel and salted caramels. Cinnamon, nutmeg and honey sweetness.
Highland’s Friends is a 100% authentic blended Scotch Whisky, bottled primarily for the French market. It’s available all over Eastern Europe and in all French-speaking markets, where it retails for €13.99 (about ¥109).
Despite the price point on this, exceptionally cheap for a bottle of Scotch whisky, this is a surprisingly good drink. It’s softer and fruitier than typical Scotch blends. It is not too dissimilar to the Japanese whisky blend style of Mars whisky or the Nikka Blend.
The best whisky bargain of 2019 for sure.
