Tasting Notes

Nose: Familiar nectarines and apples, lemon, coastal grasses, caramel, soft spice.

Palate: The caramel develops into demerara and the peat begins to make itself known. Tiramisu, star anise, hints of nutty smoke.

Finish: Malty, fruity Glemorangie with some earthy, peaty depth.

Overall: Still classic Glenmorangie, but a measured injection of peat and Amontillado cask influence help greater evoke their beautiful home.

What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Glenmorangie Dornoch

Quote 1: “I try not to buy no age statement whiskies. I tend to think that (some) distilleries are trying to rip us off (are you listening Macallan?). However, I have long been a fan of Glenmo’s smooth house style and I fell in love with Signet while flying first class with Cathay last year. So, my curiosity got the better of me and I bought a bottle of the Bacalta and the Glenmorangie Dornoch. I have a Duthac on order from my local store.

Tasting notes often leave me baffled or feeling that there is something wrong with my nose. This, however, is a different experience. Peach, right there in your face, can’t miss it. Aniseed/liquorice, creamy rice pudding with a hint of nutmeg, a little sea salt and a final flourish of smoked eel.

Dr Lumsden, you’re a genius and I hope you don’t retire before I die. You are the master of the special finish, and I’ve tasted quite a few.”

Quote 2:  “Never have I thought of a Glenmo that I did not like (except LaSanta) and this is not gonna change that.
Glenmo is, in my opinion, numero uno at their trade and not only do they produce unique whisky. The make DELICIOUS whisky. Glenmorangie Dornoch one is dark sugars, appel’ ish fruits and shy earth in the nose. Let breath and the sugar will increase.

A sip reveals yummy caramelized sugar and more fruit. Mouthfeel is faaaaaaaat. I don’t get the nuttiness though. The end reveals more earthy dryness without subduing the sweetness and fruitiness. It lingers for quite a while which was expected from Glenmo. Really nice.

This is a delicious, fun whisky to drink.”

Quote 3:1st in the Legends line, this is something special to mark something special. This slightly peated dram is familiar with Glenmorangie territory but with a meatier character. Lovely dram. As long as there is a Legends line, I will be buying.”
