Caol Ila 18
A wonderfully balanced expression from the core Caol Ila range, this 18 year old is malty and thick with notes of Caol Ila smoke and phenols, a lovely Islay single malt without extreme levels of peat.
Nose: A rather subtle nose with hints of herbal, vanilla and liquorice.Grassy, creamy malt.
Palate: Big, refined sweetness, leafy. Well integrated oak, smoke, oily, peat. Barley.
Finish: A well-aged whisky, elegant yet full of flavour. Long, herbal notes, gentle smoke, soft peat. Oily wood.
What some of our whisky loving friends have said about Caol Ila 18
Quote 1 “ Fabulous Islay Malt, a good step up from the 12 year old as you would expect. No water required for me and just enjoy one of the longest finishes in Scotland, the peat is there all the way but at no point tries to steal the limelight, so smooth, beautifully balanced. For me, Islay doesn’t get much better than this. Perfect time of year to enjoy it too……”
Quote 2 “ Finally drained the last of my 18 and sadly I can’t find it anywhere I’ve looked in the central US. This has the richness of classic highland malts with the fullness of Islay smoke and peat. Perfect balance of both. I much prefer older Islay whisky where it is more refined not just a big hit of peat. ”
