Aberlour A’Bunadh is bottled at cask strength in the tradition of 19th century single malts when villagers would come to the distillery to collect their dram straight from the cask, often in apothecary bottles obtained from the village chemist. These were the inspiration for the A’Bunadh bottle shape today.

These were the inspiration for the A’Bunadh bottle shape today.

A’Bunadh is bottled using only Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, this is batch #67 released in mid 2020.

This roaring success could be attributed to the delicate berry-flavour spirit that runs from its swan-necked stills, or to the enormous popularity of its heavily sherried A’bunadh batch releases. Perhaps even the fact that the Distillery Manager used to serenade the slumbering casks with the soothing tones of the bagpipes. Okay, maybe not the last thing!

A’bunadh is released in limited run batches, blended from barrels ranging from 5 to 25 years old. Roughly translating from Gaelic to English as “original”, A’bunadh is the distillery’s way of paying tribute to founder James Fleming, and recalls the days when Sherry casks were universally used for maturing Scotch whisky.
